As you’ve likely noticed by now, this week’s blog will answer 50 unique and interesting questions about me! The 50 questions were pulled from the “371 Random Question Get To Know Me Tag” (linked below), but of course, we will not have time for all 371 questions! The selected 50 items were chosen based on their uniqueness and their ability to unveil some interesting and unknown information about me. My selections were also quite thought-provoking, which will surely make for a fascinating Q&A! So let’s hop right in! Tag — I’m it!
Where are you from?
I was born in Detroit, Michigan, where I spent the first few years of my life. Since then, I’ve lived in six other cities.
What are your best characteristics?
I am a very humorous person! I have a way of taking my mind and the minds of others around me off of negativity with the power of laughter. I am also very strong-willed and determined. I do not let internal or external factors determine what I am or am not able to accomplish in life. I would even say I am very caring — sometimes too caring. This is often the root of my frustrations. I give people more consideration than some are willing to give me in return, and once this backfires, it can upset me.
What is one thing that you’ve never revealed to your parents?
Until recently, my mother didn’t know the extent to which I was bullied in middle school. To her, in eighth grade, I was this 13-year-old clown who had trouble associating with wholesome, levelheaded kids, and staying out of “trouble.” Somehow I made my middle school life appear far more glamorous than it was. Although I was a mischievous clown, I was also a shy and timid little girl who was in fear of walking into a crowded room because the popular kids would talk about how big she was or how poorly she chose to dress. I don’t think I ever shared this with my father. I didn’t want my parents to worry about me. They had enough hardship to deal with, and I refused to make this another concern, especially since their worry wouldn’t change anything.
What is your best physical feature?
I would have to say my lips and teeth! Such a strange answer — I know! I’ve always loved my smile and how lovely my lips and teeth always seem to look. I’m not entirely sure if there’s anything more I can or should say about this!!
What is your biggest accomplishment?
A few things come to mind. Most notably, I’ve always been proud of becoming an assistant store manager at age 19. I climbed the ladder very quickly at Dollar General. It surprised me that after only one year of service ( having hired in as a sales associate)I was already an assistant manager, and a darn good one!
What is your biggest fear?
I have two answers to this question. Tangibly, I am most afraid of snakes. Internally, I fear failure. I am a late college graduate, who tries every day to overcompensate for years of complacency. To bring myself up to speed, where my career and education are concerned, I feel as though I put myself through a lot of unnecessary struggle and strain. In all actuality, I have accomplished more in one year than I thought I ever would in six years! I am in a fabulous position with work, school, and life in general! Everybody has some form of inferiority complex– this is mine.
What is your biggest regret?
As indicated above, my biggest regret was taking a two-year break from college back in 2016. The hiatus has put me a little behind, but I’m fighting every single day to make up for it. My pathway to success has character — it twists and turns a little bit but ultimately heads towards the finish line. A straight line would have been superb, but it wouldn’t have yielded all the experience and lessons as the latter.
Who is your favorite actor?
My selection changes by the day, but today, I think it might be a tie between Idris Elba and Vince Vaughn. Idris has yet to produce a bad film. In some of his less-praised projects, such as Prom Night and Obsessed, he is still able to create a character that you love! He can genuinely do no wrong! Vince Vaughn keeps me laughing for hours. I am very particular about my comedy films. I typically will not watch a comedy film that features actors like Will Ferrell or John C. Reilly – actors who tend to deliver cheesy or obnoxious humor. Vince Vaughn is unmatched. He’s got the snide, sarcastic, and boundless humor that I love so much! Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Wedding Crashers, and The Break Up are some honorable mentions!
Who is your favorite actress?
Again, I could give a few names. The one person that stands out is Reese Witherspoon! She brings a certain effervescence and grace to her roles. Some of my favorite Reese films are This Means War, Legally Blonde, and, even though it’s a little dark, Fear. She’s one of those people that you love to see on your TV! Sandra Bullock would have to be my second favorite! Her works range from Speed to Gravity, and she hits just about everything in between. Of course, I have to mention my favorites, which are Miss Congeniality and The Proposal. Speaking of The Proposal, Ryan Reynolds is another great actor! Shame on me for not thinking of him sooner! Deadpool; Just Friends; Safe House — all fantastic movies!
Who is your favorite musician?
I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite musical artist. Some of my favorite musicians are Banks, Melanie Martinez, Enya, Disclosure, Coldplay, and Halsey. I can count on each one of these artists/musical groups to make incredible other-worldly music with alternative undertones and faint notes of R&B. I have a tendency to fall in love with obscure music. I listen to mainstream music, of course, but most of the artists aren’t considered a favorite of mine.
What is your favorite color?
Anyone who has spent any time on my website should know that my favorite color is purple, and I love just about every version of purple. Violet is a bold, edgy, artistic, and expressive shade and lavender is a beautiful, soft, and calming shade.
What is your favorite drink?
Honestly, I don’t drink much these days. I typically drink water all day because it’s easy and very accessible to me, but I am a huge fan of iced tea and pink lemonade. Together and separate!
What is your favorite food?
That’s easy– Nachos! You really can’t mess nachos up.
What is your favorite ice-cream flavor?
Currently, I’m a big fan of praline and pecan flavors. When I’m in the mood for something mature, I typically lean towards coffee!
What is your favorite music genre?
I don’t have a favorite genre because my musical tastes are not that specific. I will listen to anything that I can connect with. Primarily I listen to Pop, Alternative, and Electronic or Dance music.
What is your favorite quote?
Currently, I like the saying “to believe is to achieve.” It’s not a robust quote, but it holds the most value to me right now.
What is your favorite snack?
Right now, I’m pretty obsessed with Doritos.
What is your favorite song?
I have a few favorite songs at the moment. To name a few: “This Is What It Feels Like” by Banks; “Sit Next To Me” by Foster The People; “True Colors” by Kesha; “Photograph” by Def Leppard; “Tag, You’re It” by Melanie Martinez, and “Omen” by Disclosure. That was way more than a few. I apologize!
What is your favorite sport?
It’s a tie between volleyball and basketball.
What is your favorite type of clothing?
I would have to say shoes. I hope that counts. I love shoes!
What is the name of your favorite restaurant?
I don’t have a favorite, but I frequent Bucharest Grill and Wasabi in Midtown.
What is your all-time favorite town or city?
I love Royal Oak. There’s a great vibe in Royal Oak, and I would like to live there one day. I would also love to visit Los Angeles, California. I need to see what all the hype is about!
What was your favorite subject in high school?
Creative writing was my favorite subject in high school. Throughout grade school, my favorite classes were typically composition and English. I also really liked my parenting and personal finance classes in high school!
What was your least favorite subject in high school?
History, without a doubt.
Are you a fan of any sports teams?
My Wayne State Warriors, of course! I like Michigan as well, but things have changed since their recent loss to Ohio.
Are you a good cook?
I’m a pretty good cook. I only cook for myself, and I have no complaints.
Who is the best teacher you’ve ever had?
I loved my high school Drama and Speech teacher, Mr. Rase. I’d never met someone so cool and so nerdy at the same time! He helped bring me out of my shell by requiring me to perform a poem, mime act, and a skit from a play in front of the entire class. I also loved my teacher for 3rd and 5th grade, Ms. Mayo.
Do you prefer that people shoot straight with you or temper their words?
Please shoot straight with me– I’m not a mind reader, and I’m way too old for mind games. As long as you can recognize the line between shooting straight and being disrespectful, we’ll be okay.
Do you have any allergies?
I do — seasonal and nickel allergies. I’ll break out into full hives if I wear certain jewelry.
Do you have any birthmarks? If so, where?
No, but I do have beauty marks (which I love). I have four on my face alone — one on my chin, one tiny one above my lip, one on my left cheek, and one under my eye. I also have one on my upper back, one on my left leg, one on my hand, and a couple on my shoulders. I also have a swarm of freckles on my back (thanks, mom)!
Do you have any pets?
I have a 10-year-old black cat named Tabby. I call her “Goober” because she’s a booger. She lives with my mother now that I’ve moved away. Our family found her and about five or six of her kitten siblings in our garage back in 2008.
Who was your first celebrity crush?
That I can’t recall, but I know my biggest celebrity crush was on Nick Jonas in 2009. This crush was back in his curly hair, skinny jeans, converse, “Year 3000” days. Yeah…
What is your most embarrassing moment?
When I was in elementary school, I performed in the talent show with my sister and one of our friends. We did a pom-pom performance, and during my supposed-to-be-super-impressive cartwheel, my pom-pom slid from underneath my hand, causing me to fall on my head. They laughed at me, not with me.
What is at the top of your bucket list?
I want to purchase my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, but it would also be pretty amazing to vacation in Hawaii one day. If reaching my goal weight counts, it’s definitely at the top of my list.
What is something you look for in a partner?
I look for humor and a calm, “chill” vibe. I love a guy who’s comfortable and able to thrive in any setting.
How difficult is it for you to forgive someone who refuses to apologize?
I don’t think this is difficult at all. If you don’t have the sense to apologize and mend fences with me, you are not someone I need to be surrounding myself with, so forgiving you couldn’t be easier. I’d say forgiving someone and giving them all kinds of second and third chances is much more difficult because you’re playing Russian Roulette with your heart.
If you won the lottery, how long would you wait to tell people?
In my right mind, I would wait until after I’d spent all of the money. Realistically, I would be so excited that I would probably call everyone I know and tell them before the day’s end.
When was the first time you were on a plane?
My first trip to Disney World in 2011!!
When was the last time you cried?
I don’t cry often, so I remember quite clearly the cause. I was watching Harper’s Island, a show I love, and during the scene where Chloe and Cal die together, I started crying.
Pick one: exceptional strength or intelligence?
The brain is the strongest muscle, so I’ll take exceptional intelligence.
Summer or winter?
I prefer fall over both summer and winter. Not today’s “Michigan fall,” though. There was a time where fall brought beautiful piles of leaves, 68-degree days, and called for comfy, lightweight clothing. Nowadays, we’re lucky if it isn’t snowing in October. But if I had to choose, I’d say summer. Better music (seems like) and more things to do!
Would you rather be always overdressed or always underdressed?
Always overdressed — at least people would know that I care how I present myself. And if it’s a temperature thing, I can always strip layers off in the heat.
Would you rather have a live-in chef or a live-in massage therapist?
I’d rather have the live-in chef for sure! Meal prep takes up a fifth of my lazy Sundays right now. I’d love to get those hours back.
Would you rather live alone in a five-bedroom house or an apartment with five kids?
Right now, I’ll take the big house! I’d love to have more rooms to cram the clutter into.
Would you rather live in an apartment or a house?
I would love to rent or purchase a condo with an attached garage. It’s the perfect space for someone living on their own, or a small, quiet family. I don’t even require a detached condo. I’ll take a townhouse-style condo and a reserved carport space!
Would you rather not be able to go out in the daytime or the night time?
Well, if I can’t go out at night, I always have to look presentable, but if I never went out in the daytime, I would never see the beautiful, warm sun! Kill me — I can’t have one or the other.
Would you rather your parents be able to read your thoughts or your crush?
I would prefer for my crush to read my thoughts because I would rather my crush judge me for my feelings than my family.
How are you glad that you are like your mother?
My mother is a very hard-working woman who has spent her adult-life working beyond her means to better her family’s lives. Having recognized this, I never take no for an answer or let an uphill battle deter me. She showed me how powerful it is to be brave.
How are you different from your dad?
I like to think that I’m a little more approachable than my dad. He was very intimidating, and sometimes that made coming to him very challenging. I hope that one day when I have children, they will not hesitate to approach me with tough subjects.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m super kind and super funny! I can be a little reserved initially, but I’ve always been the clown in my family and the clown amongst my friends. I’m just a girl who loves music, video games, reading, writing, and having a good laugh!
